About RJNY, Inc.

The earthquake of January 12, 2010 was the catalyst that brought a group of family members together to help their hometown of Jacmel, Haiti. Marcie Dubûche-Lhérisson contacted family members, and after meeting they all knew that they had to join together to help. That was the beginning of Renaissance
Jacmelienne de New York, Inc. (RJNY, Inc.). RJNY, Inc. is dedicated to aiding the people of Jacmel, a coastal city in the southwest area of Haiti. In February and April 2010, carrying over 40 cases of medical supplies, food, clothing, and toiletries, members traveled through the Dominican Republic to Jacmel. While in Haiti, the group held meetings with many local officials, successfully advocating for services for a neighborhood where housing was completely destroyed and residents were living under makeshift tents. We also organized a local group of RJNY to access needs and coordinate shipments with our group in New York. Globe and Mail, a Canadian newspaper documented our second trip.http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/world/project-jacmel/the-tent-city/as-hurricane-season-beckons-politics-stymie-relocation-efforts/article1580816/ You can find the article under NEWS. In the past months, we have also successfully coordinated numerous shipments of supplies from New York to Jacmel.

On January 3, 2011, RJNY members returned to Jacmel on another mission and to also commemorate the first anniversary of the quake. RJNY distributed over 400 toys, 140 books, 100 T-shirts to the children of Marie Reine Immaculee in Jacmel.

RJNY, Inc. was granted 501 c 3 status on October 21, 2010 which allows us to seek grants and in-kind contributions. To date, RJNY is sustained through dues from its board members, private donations, and in-kind contributions of supplies and materials from hospitals, clinics, stores, and other organizations. RJNY, Inc. is please to announce that we are sending children to school in Jacmel, Haiti. RJNY, Inc. has many goals and one of these is to help with the education of the children of Jacmel. Right now, we are helping 44 children to attend school by providing the tuition. We want to help many more and RJNY, Inc. will work very hard to help as many children as possible.
